Collaborative Headlines
Trunk or Treat at Sacred Heart
Sunday, October 25, 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM, at Sacred Heart's MacKenzie Center parking lot
Join us for trunk-or-treating and an All Saints Day craft activity. Come dressed as a Church Saint and win a special prize! Please email Maria (mrosen@sholnewton.org) or visit the Sign-Up if you are able to decorate your trunk for the event. Volunteer trunks should arrive by 11:00 AM.

We are glad to announce the winter session of Seasons of Hope in the collaborative. If you have experienced the death of a loved one and are looking for meaning and consolation, we invite you to join our Seasons of Hope group, beginning in November. Seasons of Hope is a Christ-centered group where we will be able to share and learn from each other as we walk together in faith on our unique journey of grief.

There will be 6 sessions in this Season, Saturdays from 10:30am-12:00pm, beginning Saturday, November 7. The sessions will be held in Sacred Heart Office Dining Room. The group will be facilitated by new staff member Fran Anderson, who has worked with grief groups in parishes for many years.

- Christ Child Society Toddler Clothing Drive: ENDING ON Sunday, October 18th! Shop for size 2T to 5T items: pajamas, sweatshirts, pants, tops, slippers, socks, outfits. Bring the items to Sacred Heart church entrances, there will be collection bins at the doors of the church. Contact Kathie Long.
- A Night of Prayer for Peace: Friday, October 16 at 7 PM on Zoom. SHOL PAX Christi Newton will lead prayers for peace in our world. Contact Sioux Mont for prayers and reflections. Zoom link: tinyurl.com/SHOLPAXChristi Meeting ID: 845 9843 3122; Passcode: 950117
- Young Adults Apple Picking: Saturday, October 17, 9:30am-3:30pm, at Honey Pot Hill Orchards, Stow. For $25, three people can enter the farm and pick a bag of apples weighing 10 pounds! To join, please email Leslee at lambrosio@sholnewton.org.
- Safe Environment Training: Saturday, October 17, 1:00 pm at Sacred Heart Lower Church. The Virtus Protecting God’s Children Safe Environment Program will be offered in our collaborative on three dates this fall (see above). Please pre-register online at https://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/; follow the link for “First Time Registrant” on the left, and Archdiocese of Boston for your location. ANYONE volunteering in the Collaborative in any capacity is required to attend this training once; not attending will impact your ability to volunteer.
- World Mission Sunday Collection: October 17-18, at all Masses. Join Catholics around the world as we celebrate our unity in Christ and our shared call to be missionaries. This year marks the 100th anniversary of World Mission Sunday, with the theme: “One in Christ, united in mission.” To donate online, visit the Pontifical Mission Societies USA.
- Shattuck Shelter/Holy Family Shelter Dinner Collection: October 17 & 18, cards will be available at the doors of Our Lady’s for those wishing to contribute to the dinner that Our Lady’s is sponsoring on October 21. Small food items are requested (brownies, fruit, salad dressing, etc.). If we all contribute a little, we can feed so many! Thanks so much for your care and generosity. Please remember to bring your donations to Our Lady’s Parish Office on Tuesday, October 20, 5-8pm.
- Honduras Coffee Sale: October 17-18, at all Masses at Our Lady's. The coffee was roasted at the coop’s organic roastery in Honduras and is a darker roast than the last batch they roasted for us in May. Because of added expenses for shipping, the price now will be $15 per pound. Please support our farmer friends, and enjoy the coffee!
- Newton Harvest Fair: Sunday, October 18, in Newton Centre. Come visit the SHOL Collaborative’s table!
- Upcoming Workshops on Recent Papal Documents: Mondays October 19, October 26, November 2: 5:30-7:00pm; November 9: Plant-based Potluck beginning at 7:00pm, at Our Lady’s. Sign up soon for SHOL Newton Creation Care Team’s series of workshops about Laudato Si’ and Magnifica Humanitas: Caring for Our Common Home. We will gather at Our Lady’s on four Monday evenings with other Newton area neighbors from a variety of faith traditions to read, reflect, and converse about two of the most urgent questions of our time: the ecological crisis and the rise of artificial intelligence. - Young Adults Ministry October Faith Fellowship: Wednesday, October 21, 7:30-8:30pm at Sacred Heart Parish Office. “Is Rosary Biblical?” Our speaker is a rosary devotee and Collaborative Catechist, Dr. Rita Schneeweiss.
